The character's voice is really good, the world is interesting and reasonably well developed, the plots are fast-moving and I have only minor quibbles with how the stories develop (such as all the hottie male characters being romantically interested in the female protagonist for no immediately obvious reason. ![]() I've posted my thoughts on a couple of these in the monthly reading threads basically, I think they're among the better offerings in urban fantasy, and although I wasn't totally satisfied with Blood Bound, I liked all of them. She switched to urban fantasy with the Mercy Thompson books (Moon Called, Blood Bound, Iron Kissed and the upcoming Bone Crossed). She developed a modest fan base but never really broke out in this part of the genre, probably because her high fantasy work just wasn't that exceptional. The Hurog books fall into this category (I think she has some earlier stuff as well, written during the mid- to late '90s). Patricia Briggs started out writing pretty standard high fantasy. ![]()
